The inspiration for this song came as I was emptying the dishwasher and noticing the chipped plates and variety of glassware. When we first got married, all of our place settings matched but many pieces have broken over the years and now there's a mix of replacement pieces. The song is about realizing the important aspects of marriage - and a perfect place setting doesn't rank very high.
