Bob Dylan & Israel, The Neighborhood Bully

It may not be his best song, but Dylan’s 1983 song about Israel is surprisingly resonant today.

This album came out when I was in high school and I immediately totally fell in love with this song. It is truly amazing that it has become even more relevant through the years. When I used to DJ, I’d play it sometimes (even though almost no one but me knew what it was about) to show both my pride in being Jewish, and in Israel.

I think the new version of the this video is great, but resent day Bob Dylan should be in it!

Bob Dylan’s ‘Neighborhood Bully’ Gets Memory-Holed

Me, I romp and stomp/Thankful as I romp/Without freedom of speech/I might be in the swamp

I as at sure of this should go in “Music,” “Social Media,” or in this Topic. “Neighborhood Bully” is one of my favorite Bob Dylan songs and I loved it when it came out when I was in high school. It is one of the few examples of anJewish musician bravely, and proudly, announcing his love for Israel. More than gang, he was telling the truth about the world’s attitude toward Israel. Now pride in Israel, and honesty about it, is labeled “hate speech.” Which is exactly why used to play it when I (occasionally) DJ I play it. I live that it would offend the Israel haters. If it offended people-that made me live it even more.


And of course YouTube, a major advocate, and culprit, for censorship is only to happy to push the far left’s antisemitic attitude toward the Jewish state. That kind of censor his only one of the reasons why we started Moptu. That kind of censorship will never happen here.
