If we make people stay in the ethnic and racial lane assigned to them by accident of birth, we’ll lose everything that makes this country great.

This article should be required reading for everyone. The idea of "cultural appropriation" is diametrically opposed to the very American idea of the melting pot, or "e pluribus unum," which means "out of many, one." The best of what Americans are comes from a shared culture derived from many sources. Cultural appropriation is a regressive, foolish, and dangerous idea.
