Iconic Borscht Belt comic Jackie Mason dead at 93

Famed borscht-belt comedian Jackie Mason, who rose from a modest childhood on the Lower East Side to become one of the most famous funnymen of all time, has died. He was 93.

Very sad news. When my father brought home a tape of Jackie Mason and played it for me-I don’t think I ever laughed as hard as I did that day. He was intelligent, insightful, and most of all, brutally honest. My dad also took me to see him, just the two of us, in New York during the mid-80s. It was unusual to be able to do things just with my father, and the fact that he was taking me to see Jackie Mason made it even more special. Today, we need people like him more than ever. He will be greatly missed. BDE
