This is very sad, I lived in San Diego for 13 years and still consider it a second home. But, to be very honest, this doesn't surprise me at all. I experienced more (real) antisemitism during my time in San Diego than I had in my entire life previous to living there. It's just reality that outside of LA and New York it's just more common (although I have experienced it in LA too - particularly during my time at USC which has a history of looking the other way at bigotry when it's directed at Jews).
