Assisted-death bill approved by California Senate - LA Times

After a debate marked by raw and personal tales of loss, the state Senate on Thursday advanced a proposal to allow terminally ill Californians to end their lives with drugs prescribed by physicians.

Controversial proposal for Califorinia. This system gives patients and doctors another option for end of life status. There has not been a rush to suicide in other states or countries where similar laws have been passed. Having been a member of a hospital ethics committee for more than 20 years I do support this measure. Giving each person this option for a more peaceful and conscious end to life in no way should cause those who object any angst. This choice to me is similar to the choice for an abortion but even more clear because you are choosing for yourself and not directly affecting another life i.e. a fetus.
